Greenbank F.C. Buccaneers – 2nd December

East Coast V Greenbank Buccaneers

Once again it was time to travel to the East Coast but almost unbelievably it wasn’t cold, wet and windy!

As is becoming the norm, Greenbank started off quickly with a nice through ball from Jake finding Bailey in a good position who had his shot go just wide of the post. Another good passing move resulted in a corner from which Mason saw his effort come back off the post from the edge of the box. A succession of corners followed for Greenbank with the East Coast goalkeeper pulling off 2 great saves from point blank range to deny Bailey and Charlie F. Greenbank finally broke the deadlock when Bailey forced another great save from the goalkeeper only for the rebound to fall to Jake who made no mistake with a clinical finish. Bailey was a constant threat down the right hand side linking up well with Mason, Erin and Oli who was making some great interceptions and quickly turning defence into attack.

The second half started with a changeover in goal, Jake replacing Charlie R and almost straight away he was called into action with a great save after East Coast had broke free. East Coast were pushing forward but were finding it difficult to break through the defence with Oli twice getting blocks in at crucial times to not only frustrate the home side, but to immediately turn defence into attack releasing Bailey down the right who saw a nice effort pushed on to the crossbar and then Charlie R though the centre who saw his effort saved by the goalie who was having a worldy! Greenbank pushed forward and had a succession of corners before Oli turned the ball home after a goalmouth scramble to give the team a bit of breathing space. Charlie R was then denied by yet another save from their goalkeeper before Jake showed that he was no slouch between the posts either saving what looked like a certain goal on the break. Drew was really busy not giving their players any time on the ball and working well with Erin to close the ball down at every opportunity. Greenbank added to their score after Bailey slotted home following a lovely through ball from Erin, and then almost straight from the kick off Bailey broke down the right and cut inside before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper. By this time Greenbank were completely dominant and pushing forward at every opportunity and Charlie R got his first of the game after Charlie F provided a lovely pull back for him from the left hand side. With seconds to go Charlie R got his second of the game, controlling the ball on the edge of the box before smashing a shot that gave their goalkeeper absolutely no chance!

Match summary

Consistency and clean sheets are the key with good teams and Greenbank produced another performance that was full of fantastic defending, slick passing and movement and some clinical finishing – on another day, there could easily have been a shed load more goals but their keeper produced an outstanding display to restrict the scoring.

Man of the Match: Oli, some vital interceptions, composed on the ball and transitioned the play from defence into attack at every opportunity with a well taken goal adding up to an all-round excellent performance!
