Greenbank Buccaneers V North Lindum Hawkes
A cold and windy Mother’s Day brought the visit of North Lindum Hawkes to the grass pitches at NK, looking to avenge their earlier loss to the Buccaneers at their own ground.
Greenbank hit their straps immediately with some excellent passing, movement and really excellent finishing. Greenbank made the most of their fast start, and the combination of Charlie R and Bailey proving to be a great combination – Bailey a constant threat down the right, linking up well with Jake and Erin and managing to grab himself 7 goals in the first half. Charlie R once again showing a great first touch and twisting and turning got himself on the score sheet a couple of times. Jake turning in a good display in the middle of the park with great vision and powerful runs that their defenders had no answer to as well as a first half hat trick.
The second half proved to be a carbon copy of the first with Greenbank controlling the middle of the pitch and Jake and Mason helping to provide the ammunition for our strike force which looked like they were going to score every time they got in front of the goal. Mason was having his best game for the Buccaneers with some great passing and combining well with Charlie R and topped off with a lovely finish beating 3 players before drilling a low shot home. Although offensively the Hawkes were quiet, when they did get into good positions they were ably dealt with by a resolute Greenbank defence with Jake S and Aaron both keeping their concentration levels high when needed. During the second half the post and crossbar came to the Hawkes rescue no fewer than 5 times in addition to a number of Greenbank goals to round off a great display which included a very well taken hat trick from Erin.
There have a number of occasions where the team has not got the just rewards this season but today wasn’t one of them – their energy, great passing and super finishing was rewarded with the biggest win of the season. Only the woodwork prevented this from being an even bigger score.
Mason showed a good work rate and great link up play to provide assists for the strikers as well as a well taken goal himself
