Greenbank FC Buccaneers – 11th November

Birchwood v Greenbank Buccaneers

Next up was a trip to Birchwood Leisure Centre for the remembrance day fixture on a lovely sunny day – both teams observed the silence impeccably before the game got underway.

As is becoming the norm, Greenbank got off to a good start passing the ball around and creating a number of chances to open the scoring with both Charlie R and Jake coming really close with efforts after some lovely 1-2’s. Finally after a number of really close calls Charlie F opened the scoring with a neat finish at the near post after a well worked team goal with everyone touching the ball. Greenbank then had a number of chances with Charlie R, Charlie F, Jake and Drew all coming close to adding to the score. Just before half time Aaron pulled off 3 excellent saves from close range as it looked like Birchwood were going to score with their first attack of the half, but Greenbank went straight up the other end and scored another through Charlie R who finished well after being put through by Jake.

The second half continued as the first had left off with Greenbank piling forward and 2 good finishes from Charlie F giving him his hat trick before Bailey finished well from a through ball from Charlie R, who then returned the favour allowing Charlie R to add another with a coolly taken finish. Defensively the team were sound with Oli breaking up attacks before they were able to cause danger. Charlie R then added another after a good through ball from Erin before Birchwood broke free and pulled another back. Bailey added his second of the game after being played in by Mason before Jake scored 3 in quick succession, combining passes with Charlie R, Bailey and Mason on each occasion.

Summary

On a day when the rain stayed away it was raining goals instead as the team showed some great passing and movement as well as some calm finishing – it was one of those days that looked like a goal was coming every time they went forward so the shooting practice on Thursdays certainly looked like it has paid dividends!

Sponsors MOM: Charlie R, great first touches and some fantastic link up play supporting with both goals and assists in equal measure.
